Carlos and Leigh Elliott-Lopez are avid lovers of the outdoors. Together they have trekked mountains in two continents and camp, hike, and fish together. In 2021, they merged their mutual passions for the outdoors with Leigh’s art career, resulting in Fishers Peak Outfitters: an artistic outdoor recreational store.
Now Carlos and Leigh are having new adventures right in their back yard while exposing others who never had outdoor opportunities in this beautiful part of the world.
Leigh’s love for the outdoors began when her parents took her camping at the age of two in the North Georgia Mountains outside her hometown of Atlanta, Georgia. She has completed portions of the Appalachian Train and spent 10 days on trail in the Nantahala National Forest.
Leigh came to Trinidad in 2018 between ICU nursing jobs to work as an artist in residence and fell in love with Trinidad’s wilderness. She loves making oil paintings (sold in-store) and frequently uses nature as her creative inspiration. “I believe outdoor recreation is for everyone. Whatever you like doing, there’s a place for you out there. You just have to get out there and have fun.”
Carlos was born and raised in Trinidad, Colorado. Here he was exposed to camping, fishing and hunting from a young age. His family took fishing adventures to Alaska many times and this made a lasting impression on him.
Carlos spent five years of his life in Breckenridge, Colorado, the heart of Colorado Ski Country. There he honed his skills in the outdoor retail industry while having outdoor adventures of his own. This experience gave him the confidence to build a business with his wife Leigh in an untouched market of southern Colorado.
